The easiest way to get from Zvartnots airport to the capital is by taxi. Here is a small tip. When you exit the airport, go a little bit away from the airport building. You will find there much cheaper cars than at the airport. People say that now there are buses running from the airport to the downtown (Respublica Square) and back. The fare is 300 drams, it’s less than 1$.

In Yerevan you can drink tap water. If you are thirsty outside, you can also use drinking fountains. It will be especially helpful for tourists travelling in summer when it’s very hot outside.

Travelling by public transport isn’t expensive in Armenia. If you need to get quickly from one end of the city to the other, it’s easier to take metro. It is open till 11PM. But in general, taxi is considered to be the most convenient and affordable transport. Pick up a metered taxi. And if you plan to travel from city to city, discuss the cost in advance.

Armenian taxi drivers are “gifted with knowledge” and know the city layout like the back of their hand. So, don’t hesitate to ask. In the capital it’s quite possible to find a hotel room for $20. While in small towns these are taxi drivers who will help you out. They often offer different options by themselves. In most cases, that will be a room in a private house or an apartment with breakfasts included. Don’t count, however, on available Internet at such places. It isn’t easy to find such “hostels” because they have no specific signs.

Armenia is definitely the place to bargain everywhere. And sometimes, it happens in quite unexpected situations. For example, previously announced cost of accommodations may suddenly grow. So, be ready to “fight”. But don’t be afraid, it will in no way affect the quality of breakfasts being served!

In many Armenian cafés there is no menu at all. So, you have to be persistent and enquire in details about the cost of your meal, and don’t forget to bargain.

Armenians are very hospitable people and try to emphasize it in all possible ways. That’s why it’s very easy to hitch-hike across Armenia. You won’t wait long for a vehicle moving in the same direction.
