After the sunset crabs are running on the beach everywhere. Catch them and ask locals to grill them. This is a great dinner option and it’s for free.

Don’t buy souvenirs on Malé, it’s better to go to local islands where they cost cheaper. You will have a vast selection to choose from. And don’t forget to ask for a discount.

On Malé and Maafushi you can eat out on a budget at local cafés. Look for the «hotaa» sign. You can have breakfast for 2-3 US dollars there and lunch for 3-5 US dollars. Plus, you will be charged a service rate and a tax.

Living on the resort islands is expensive. But you can come there for a day or two to lay out on the beach. It’s not a bad option for people on a budget. You will have however to pay 5$ to visit the islands. Arrange with local fishermen to get to the islands.
