Walking is not accepted here, one could say, even improper. But if you are walking along the side of the road, public transport drivers usually slow down a little and ask if you need a free ride.

Some hotels have just solar heating systems, including one used for water heating. So, hot water is available only during daylight hours. Ask about it in advance.

Good news: tipping is not accepted here.

To obtain a Kiribati visa, you need to apply by sending documents to Kiribaty Consul in Honolulu. But you will have to call them often and constantly remind about your documents. This option is better however than, for instance, getting a Fiji visa. Since personal appearance is required there.

Take everything you need out of your suitcase and put these things in your carry-on bag. Planes rarely fly to Kiribati, and lost luggage is very common in Oceania.

When exiting the plane, check out if there is anything on the luggage trolley. Not many people will get off in Kiribati, so, it will be immediately clear if everything is ok with your luggage. If anything, solve the issue as soon as possible.

Don’t believe drawn maps hanging in hotels halls as many tourists do. They are mostly used for decoration here and it is definitely not worth using them for navigation purposes.

Trying lobsters is a must, they are very cheap here.
